Discoveries

On our weekend visit to our construction site I met 5 our our soon-to-be neighbours! The folks that have also built recently across the street (Mary, John, Ashley and little Patrick) and Diane who's home backs onto ours. Bonus points to me for remembering names!

They were all super nice but the best bit was that Diane used to manage the golf course so was able to let me know that the big holes being dug at the front of the course are.... ponds! They have some irrigation issues I guess. Not as exciting as it might have been, but I'm happy to be 'in the know'.

Autumn

The leaves are all starting to change and the mornings are getting quite chilly - Fall is definitely here. And we're a little bit closer to being residents of Pakenham. Our house now has a roof! We've spent our summer visiting our building site at least once or twice a week to survey progress. Things were quite slow-going for a while there, but recently things have really sped up. Our contractor told me today that his goal is still to have us in by Christmas. Fingers crossed!

On our trips through the village, I feel like I'm starting to get a feel for the place. Nicholson's provides us with cold beer for our walk-through tours of the house with friends; Hudson's Corn is delicious, as are the fries from the chip stand at the bridge; and the General Store coffee is very very good for early morning site meetings with contractors.

We've met a few of our neighbours on Davison Crescent, but of course I'm terrible at remembering names. Everyone's been very nice. I just hope they aren't horrified by our house! It's closer to the road than I'd imagined although now that it has a roof on top, it doesn't look as monstrous I hope.

My aim on my next visit to the General Store is to work up my courage to ask if they know what they're building at the Golf Course!

Last 'Downtown' Canada Day

We've got some friends coming to use our prime parking spot downtown - how annoying will that be if we want to come downtown next year!?!? Although, I've heard that Pakenham has a great parade that goes through the village twice (just like in Sheenboro!) - so we'll probably just enjoy that and not have to worry about parking at all.

Our downtown Canada Day won't really consist of much time downtown in the end; C has to work and we've been invited to our friends' Family Kegger. Gotta love that combination. So I'm spending the morning helping A get a good nap so that we have lots of fun at the party.

Well... Almost Pakenham

Ok, so we don't actually live in Pakenham. But we will soon!
The house-build is now well underway and we'll be there by Christmas.
I'm there in spirit already - but am at the same time making a point of enjoying 'downtown life' in the meantime.
